Computer Telephony Integration, or CTI allows a connection between your PABX, or Key Telephone System and your computer. This is different to Voice over IP, although they both involve some sort of integration between your telephone and your data network.

CTI allows your computer to receive information from your telephone. It also permits your computer to send information to your telephone. This becomes useful if your computer has a database with your contact names and numbers. Your phone can send the information of your caller’s number (if your carrier is providing this information) to your database on your computer. Your database can then bring up your contact’s record before you even answer the phone! It can also be used to dial your phone numbers directly from your database, meaning quicker calls, less stress and no more misdialled numbers.

CTI is perfect for call centre environments, as it allows your staff better handling of incoming calls, as well as quicker and more accurate outgoing calls.
