There are many times when you need your telephone handset to be portable, rather then chained to your desk. Examples of this would include factories and warehouses, where staff who roam the premises need to be in contact.
“Wireless” can be either voice or data (as in wireless LAN). Wireless Voice is also known as “cordless”. Cordless phones allow voice to be sent between the phone handset and the base station via a radio signal. There are four basic types of cordless systems, as below:
Single Cordless
The domestic cordless is a phone which can be used in the home. Generally it consists of one handset and one base station, although some varieties allow multiple combinations. Domestic cordless phones can be added one at a time to a spare analogue extension on your telephone system. Different brands have different range capabilities, but all rely on the coverage of a single base station, without a repeater. Please see our page on Domestic Cordless, for more information, or contact us for advice on which solution best fits your needs
Add-on Cordless Networks
The DECT cordless system is a European standard, which allows high quality digital cordless phones to operate within their own network of cells. This is ideal for situations where a single base/handset is not enough. The Kirk Cordless system consists of a base station with multiple handsets, as well as the ability to add repeaters, to boost coverage around your site. The Kirk can be installed onto almost any telephone system and configured to meet your site’s requirements. Kirk cordless are used in environments such as department stores, such as Target, as well as many areas with large coverage requirements. The Kirk system will also work with travelling staff between multiple sites, using the one handset, which is logged onto whichever site they are present at. Please visit our Kirk page for more information, or contact us for specific advice
GSM Interface
Finally, if you already have staff that roam your premises and use a current mobile phone, you could use one of our GSM interfaces. Combined with a cheap call rate from a mobile carrier, you can utilise your existing PABX to make “internal” calls to mobiles within your own company. Please talk to us for help on whether this solution is right for you.
